Need Help Choosing a Safety Vest?

Finding the right safety vest can be an overwhelming task, especially if you’ve never used one before. Safety vests come in different sizes, colors, materials and classes. If you’re unsure which type of safety vest you need, you’ve come to the right place. We here at SafetyVests.com have created a safety vest guide to help walk you through the process of choosing a safety vest that suites your needs.

The safety vest guide works by breaking down the vest into six critical sections. As the user, you select the option or options you want included in your safety vest within each section. Let’s take color for example, which is one of the six sections. There are four options within the color section, including Yellow-Lime Green, Orange, No Preference, or Other. If you are specifically looking for orange safety vests, you would select only the orange option. If, on the other hand, you have no preference, you can simply select the no preference option to keep safety vests of all colors included in your search.

Color is just one of the six sections designed to help break down the safety vests. Let’s take a look at all of the sections:

  • Vest Style – This section breaks down vests based on class, including ANSI Class 3, Class 2, ANSI 207-2006, Non-ANSI, and No Preference. For many construction and highway workers, it is very important that they are wearing the correct class of safety vest required for their line of work. If you are selecting this safety vest for personal use, class may not be as important to you. Class is generally based on the amount of non reflective and reflective material covering the safety vest.
  • Vest Material – This section breaks down the vests based on how the vests are structured. Options included here are mesh, solid, a hybrid of mesh and solid, or no preference.
  • Vest Color – As mentioned earlier, this section breaks down vests based on color. If you choose the other option, only blue, red, green and black safety vests will be shown.
  • Closure Type – This section breaks the safety vests into two categories, either Velcro or Zipper. There are some other closure styles and some vests may have none at all, but the vast majority will fall under one of these two categories.
  • Vest Design – This section breaks the safety vests down by the job the vest is designed for. The options in this section include Breakaway, Flame Resistant, Chevron, Surveyor, and no preference.
  • Brand – This final sections breaks down safety vests by brand. If you’re looking for a specific brand, this section is perfect for you. If this is your first time purchasing a vest and don’t a specific brand in mind, simply choose the no preference option.

Once you have gone through the safety vest guide, the remaining safety vests that fit all of your criteria will be listed below. We hope this guide will be helpful in your quest to find that perfect safety vest.

Could Adjustable Safety Vests Be The Right Option For You?

February 2nd, 2011 No comments

Finding the right safety vest can be a challenge. With so many different styles, it can get overwhelming and confusing very quickly. Each style of safety vest is designed with a different type of use in mind, so it’s important that you find the safety vest that suites your needs.

Sometimes though, just one style of safety vest isn’t enough. What about those orders for multiple employees? Do you know exactly what size each employee wears? And what about when the temperature starts to drop and you need to wear more clothing, how are you going to fit your safety vest over those bulky winter clothing items?

If you have any of the previously mentioned issues, consider adding adjustable safety vests to your next vest order. Adjustable safety vests are perfect for these two options because of its ability to be adjusted, either increasing or decreasing the size of the vest. The majority of adjustable safety vests can be adjusted in one of three way. Either by using plastic snaps, Velcro, or hook and loop side panels. What this means is that each individual adjustable safety vest has one of these three adjustment methods, not all three. Be sure to inspect the product description if the method of adjustment is important to you.

Adjustable safety vests are the perfect option if you need to wear it during the winter or need safety vests for multiple people. Here’s why:

  • They fit over bulky winter clothing – Almost no one likes to do work in the winter weather. It’s cold, wet and snowy. To make matters even worse, it can be really hard to fit a small safety vest over any bulky clothing such as a rain jacket or sweatshirt. This is why adjustable safety vests are perfect for this problem. During the warmer months, the vest can be adjusted to be smaller, and during the colder months it can be adjusted to fit overtop of any large clothing.
  • They fit multiple sized people – Every try to purchase a large amount of safety vests for more than one person? It can be hard to get the sizes just right. In most cases, you end up with people wearing safety vests that are either too big or too small. Adjustable safety vests can be used to alleviate this issue. Because they can be adjusted to fit different sized people, it become easier to buy safety vests in bulk.

Reflective safety vests are essential to staying in ANSI regulations when working in high traffic and construction site areas.

You can purchase an array of reflective vest styles online. Reflective vests are available in ANSI class 2 and class 3, and their class depends on the amount of reflective and retro reflective material. Choose from surveyor vests, adjustable reflective vests and breakaway vests.

A reflective vest can also be custom printed with your logo or message.

ANSI says that to be class 2, a reflective vest must have 775 square in. of background material, and 201 square in. of reflective material. Class 2 reflective vests are worn by workers who are exposed to traffic that exceeds 25 miles per hour.

Class 3 vests provide the highest level of hi-viz protection. They have sleeves and are worn by workers exposed to traffic that exceeds 50 miles per hour. ANSI class 3 reflective vests have 1240 square in. of background material and 310 square in. of reflective material.

Order a reflective vest online or call 1-877-899-SAFE.
